Will Calhoun
"From Straight Ahead Rock to Straight Ahead Jazz" Drumset Clinic
Will Calhoun graduated from Berklee School of Music, where he received a bachelor's degree in music production and engineering. He was also the recipient of the prestigious Buddy Rich Jazz Masters Award for outstanding performance by a drummer. As a member of Living Colour, Calhoun received two Grammy Awards in 1989 and 1990. In 1991, Living Colour also won an International Rock Award. The group recently toured throughout the United States, South America, and Europe. In addition to his work with Living Colour, he has recorded, performed, and/or toured with diverse artists including B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Jaco Pastorious, Harry Belafonte, Pharoah Sanders, Jack Dejohnette, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Marcus Miller, Dr. John, Carly Simon, Herb Alpert, Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood, Wayne Shorter, Run-DMC, and Public Enemy. Calhoun has recorded two solo projects, Housework and Drum Wave, and recently released a solo jazz CD entitled The Will Calhoun Quintet: Live at the Blue Note featuring Bobby Watson on saxophone, Terrel Stafford on trumpet, John Benitez on bass, and Orrin Evans on piano. Calhoun is currently working with rapper Mos Def, both as a producer and performer.
