It was at this age that he won his first World Drum Corps and World Pipe Band Championships. This was the first of Kilpatrick's record-breaking eighteen World Drum Corps Championships. He holds the current Champion of Champions drum corps title. Kilpatrick is the only lead drummer to ever win the Grand Slam, which is all five major drumming championships in one season. He has presented masterclasses and clinics all over the world. Kilpatrick currently teaches percussion students at the Royal School of Music in Glasgow, Scotland, and is also principal instructor for the BA Scottish Music (percussion) course at the same school. He has received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for drumming from the British chapter of the Percussion Arts Society. In 2004, Kilpatrick was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to music by Her Majesty The Queen in her birthday honours list. |
