The Agee / Van Hassel Percussion Duo

Duo

Formed in 2004, The Agee/Van Hassel Duo, consisting of Kristin Agee and Joseph Van Hassel, is based in Ohio. They have enjoyed several performances of their own arrangements, commissions, and standards in the repertoire. In 2006, the duo performed the world premiere of Trudge Blasted Exotic for two multi-percussionists by composer Dan Van Hassel. In 2007, they were invited to perform at a new music series in Boston, Massachusetts.

Kristin Agee is currently a graduate teaching assistant at Ohio University, pursuing a master of music degree in percussion performance. She holds a bachelor of music degree in percussion performance from Ohio University as well. During the summer of 2006, Agee spent a week in Toronto, Canada, studying percussion with the members of the NEXUS, where she performed Steve Reich’s Drumming under the direction of Russell Hartenberger. She has also performed with the Ohio Valley and River Cities Symphony Orchestras.

Joseph Van Hassel earned his bachelor of music in percussion performance, from Ohio University. While at the University, he had the opportunity to perform with Roland Vazquez, Bernard Woma, Doug Walter, Mark Stone, Paschal Younge, Allen Vizzuti, Anthony Di Sanza, Payton MacDonald, and the Ethos Percussion Group. He has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the OMEA Conference in Cleveland, and the CMENC conference in Cincinnati. He has performed in the percussion sections of the River Cities and Ohio Valley Symphonies, and is involved with an upcoming recording of works by Tan Dun and Lou Harrison. Van Hassel is currently pursuing a master of music degree in percussion performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studies with James Culley and Allen Otte.
