Fernando Hashimoto
Fernando earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in music from Campinas State University/UNICAMP under the direction of Professor Ricardo Righini and Professor Andre Juarez. Currently a Fulbright Scholarship recipient, he is pursuing a doctoral degree at City University of New York, under the direction of Morris Lang. In 1998, with a Brazilian Government Grant, he completed an extensive research project about Brazilian repertoire for percussion. After six years of service as PAS Chapter President of Brazil, he is currently serving as a member of the PAS International Committee. Hashimoto was awarded the 2002 PAS Outstanding Chapter President Award in recognition for his service and dedication to PAS and the Brazilian musical community. He has premiered more than forty works written by Brazilian composers. Many of the works were commissioned for or dedicated to him, including the premiere of Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra by Marlos Nobre. Hashimoto also premiered Concerto for Vibraphone and Orchestra by Raul do Valle at the Gershwin Theater in New York in 2005. As a composer, his works have been performed by several percussion ensembles in Brazil, America, and Europe.
